Burning of the Old Years in Ecuador

Every year in the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador, the residents have a tradition of creating massive paper and wood sculptures known as ”años viejos” (Spanish for “old years”) which are summarily burnt as the clock counts down to the new year. These iconic pieces depict everything from X-Men to nameless monsters and mechs to Smurfs.
